Social Development Department is one of the three (3) core programme Departments in the Ministry which is charged with the responsibility, ensuring the well-being of all citizens so they can reach their full potentials. The Department of Social Development (DSD) provides social protection services and leads government’s efforts to forge partnership through which vulnerable individuals, groups and communities become capable and active participants in the development of themselves and society.
Functions of the Department
i. Coordination of Inter-governmental and Inter-State Social Development activities.
ii. Conducting of Research and Surveys in various aspects of Social
iii. Training of Professional Social Workers and the organization and coordination of training facilities for Government and No Governmental Social Development Agencies.
iv. International Casework.
v. Promotion of Legislation at the National level on Matters affecting Social Development.
vi. Participation in International matters affecting Social Development.
vii. Collaborating with Social Development related voluntary organizations at National and International levels.
viii. Care of the Elderly.
ix. Family Welfare matters.
x. Care of Destitute, Indigent Poor, the Sick and Distressed Families. Care of the Elderly.
xi. Rehabilitation of Alcoholics, Drug Addicts, Cult members and
xii. Crime prevention and reduction.
xiii. Probation, Counseling and Corrections.
xiv. Conflict resolution and management.
xv. Care and Support for People Living with HIV/AIDS and People Affected by HIV/AIDS (PABHA)
xvi. Responsible for coordinating National, Regional and International relations on Social Development matters. This includes regularly attending Conferences and Meetings of the World Family Organization, African Union Labour and Social Affairs Commission, United Nations Social and Economic Development Council (ECOSOC) and follow-up to international meetings on the World summit for Social Development among others.
xvii. Care and support for vulnerable adolescents and youths, women and children.

i. The department organizes Annual Conference of Directors where all Directors of the Social Welfare are expected to participate.
ii. The department organizes periodic meetings with social welfare focused NGOs.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT
The Human Resource Management Department is the backbone of the Ministry. It serves as a stimulant to other departments. It provides the Administrative Structure on which other Departments depend for their day-to-day Administrative operations. The Department, therefore advises Management on all Administrative issues and policies and ensures the application of extant rules in the implementation of all Government policies and programmes. The HRM Department is also committed to the realization of the Ministry’s Mandate by supporting the Mission as well as core values of the ministry and providing effective, efficient and quality service delivery to the general public.
